Delay
Although delay is often used to create echo, it has many uses and is at the center of many other effects.
- Reverb Signal is delayed and effected to simulate reverberations from within a room or space.
- Slapback (75–250ms) Short single hit of delay acts to broaden the sound. Unlike doubling the echo is perceptible on careful listening.
- Doubling (30–50ms) Short single hit of delay acts to broaden the sound. The delay itself should sound like a part of the original sound.
- Chorus Delay is used in chorus effects to layer different versions of the same signal with slight variations in start time. Modulation further alters the duplicates to duplicate the effect of overdubbing.
- Flanging Short delay (less than 5ms).
- Phasing Very short delay (Less than 1ms).
