Inversions

Inversions

When the base not of a chord isn't its root note it is an inversion. Depending on which note is the base, the inversion is named differently. Inversions sound very different to chords built on the root note and have an unstable feeling.

Inversions increase the space between the notes, making the chord sound more open.
